The Pierce’s Holiday 2023 Letter

Jerry and Barbara Pierce wish you a happy, healthy, holiday season and a great 2024!

We are back to traveling!! Trips to Australia/New Zealand and Corsica France. Everyone in the family is doing well. We have even had a number of family get-togethers in Long Beach and Redwood City.

We get the question: how do you split your time? We figured it out: Barbara spends about 50% of her time in Redwood City and about 20% of her time in Long Beach and 20% in Boise. The remaining 10% is trekking. Jerry spends slightly less in Redwood City but more time trekking and hiking.

Our children and their offspring are doing fine. Miles is now 11, Analiese is 8 and Waverly is 5. Andrea and Amanda are both over 40, which seems impossible as we remain at no more than 40 ourselves.

The Grand kids in Long Beach!

We made our big international tour this year to Australia / New Zealand!! It’s our first international travel since Covid. We went in March and had a fabulous time with a number of our friends.  Read all about it in our trip report.

Mount Cook (South Island, New Zealand)

Auckland (North Island, New Zealand)

We did another all-family trek to Long Beach again this year.

The Boise crowd was able to stay at the newly remodeled condo in Long Beach. We all enjoyed swimming, hot tubbing, cooking and visiting around the area.

Analiese was selected the princess of the tournament!

Barbara continues as chairperson of the effort to add a “Carriage House” to the County History Museum. They are just breaking ground! She also continues serving on BAWSCA – Bay Area Water Supply and Conservation Agency and FINALLY we have full reservoirs. Jerry couldn’t hike, but the snowpack filled everything up!

Our backyard remains a wonderful place for the animals. The Oak Titmouse once again raised their 6 chicks and we have a pair of bucks enjoy all of Barbara’s plants.

Even Barbara captures fun images! This was in Boise from our deck.

Jerry & Barbara once again went to Hetch Hetchy to stay at the cabin. One of the perks of working for the water agency.

The Hetch Hetchy

Jerry got in yet another three wonderful backpacking hikes!  It would have been four, but the snow pack was too much and he had to cancel one of them. Photography is still a big part of all the rowing and hiking adventures that he does. He continues to work on digital cinema. In August Jerry abruptly left his position at National Association of Theater Owners. He resigned in protest to how the new president dealt with other staff. Read about it from the Hollywood Reporter and Deadline. (It’s unusual for technical types to make the trades!)

Jerry was very busy taking pictures of wildlife

Out on the water with Peter… Sometimes you need to settle for an iPhone to take a picture!

Turkey Vultures are really ugly. Just say’n.

Once again capturing the moon with an airplane on the way to SFO

A different view of Jerry rowing.

A look up Market Street in San Francisco on one of the Greg walks. I now have about 5 pictures from this same angle from ground level to 10,000′ high (thank you Southwest airline)

Andrea, Martin, Analiese and Miles keep enjoying the Boise area.

Skiing at Bogus Basin

Mario Bros. for Halloween

Christmas Lights in Boise

Andrea was coaching soccer and Analiese was playing – she likes being goalie!

Miles and Apollo have become very active (and good) hunters!

Amanda and Melissa are doing well and involved with all the activities of an active five year old! He is going to a real TK school this year. Amanda’s company has a new owner and Mel has a new job!

Waverly is a good soccer player!!

Waverly graduation!

As usual, we wish you all health, time enough to do the things you wish, and money enough to afford them. Until we’re out of this covid business, feel free to ask us to zoom. Hopefully later we can invite you to come by and see us if you are every in our area! We would love to visit!
